Pelvic Pain
A Message From Nicole Boyle, PT, DPT, Owner and Founder of Wholehearted and Healthy Physical Therapy
Several factors can contribute to pelvic floor dysfunction in women. For instance, childbirth can result in stretching muscles and nerves, damage to connective tissue, prolapse, changes in pelvic positioning, and reduced effectiveness of muscular contractions due to scar tissue. Hormonal fluctuations throughout a woman’s life can also affect the functionality of the pelvic floor.
Additionally, various traumas such as falls, auto accidents, surgery side effects, or unpleasant sexual experiences can lead to pelvic floor dysfunction, causing pain and/or incontinence. Some women and girls may be born with excessively tight muscles, resulting in pain and incontinence. Conditions like endometriosis, interstitial cystitis (painful bladder syndrome), and pudendal neuralgia are commonly associated with pelvic pain, painful sex, and incontinence.
It is estimated that approximately 25% of women experience pelvic floor disorders. As women age, the likelihood of developing such disorders increases, with about 50% of women possibly affected by age 80. Incontinence is a significant factor contributing to nursing home admissions. While common, it is important to note that incontinence is not a normal part of the aging process and should not be accepted as such. It is worthwhile to address these issues early on.

- Are you tired of experiencing urine leakage (incontinence) while running, jumping, or doing your daily activities?
- Do you have persistent back, hip, or pelvic pain after birth?
- Are you feeling self-conscious, frustrated, or discouraged, believing you'll never regain control of your body since having a child?
- Does sex feel painful or uncomfortable?
- Are you struggling to keep up with your children and missing out on life?
- Do you lack confidence because you know your core isn't functioning correctly, you have Diastasis Recti, or you still appear pregnant even though you're not?
- Are you frustrated with previous approaches that haven't worked, even if another physical therapist recommended them, or are you unsure what to try next?
- Are you searching for a long-term, natural solution to permanently resolve these issues without relying on medications or surgery?
You’ve come to the right place if you answered “YES” to these questions. Wholehearted and Healthy Physical Therapy is dedicated to providing the assistance you need.
Have You Ever Received Advice That Didn’t Solve Your Problems?
- Your doctor tells you to rest for six weeks, but even after weeks, months, or years, you're still struggling.
- You're told to follow YouTube workout videos to get back in shape, but they only cause pain and leakage, leaving you feeling terrible and discouraged.
- You're led to believe that experiencing pain or abdominal separation after giving birth is normal and that bladder control issues are a natural part of aging.
- Taking pain relievers is presented as the solution, but they can be addictive, dangerous, and come with their own set of health problems.
- You're told that medicine, surgery, or simply accepting the situation are your only options.
The Truth Is...
- Resting alone doesn't make a significant difference. You may experience temporary relief, but pelvic pain, leakage, and other postpartum symptoms persist when you return to regular activities.
- While these issues are common, experiencing lasting pain or urine leakage after pregnancy is NOT NORMAL, and it's not an inevitable part of aging.
- Pain relievers can be addictive and pose risks to your health, with potential side effects and complications.
- There are alternatives to consider beyond medicine, surgery, or injections. Your doctor may only present those options, but other possibilities are available to you.
Wholehearted and Healthy Physical Therapy Is Here to Assist Individuals Who Experience Leakage, Painful Sex, Unresolved Low Back Pain, or Have a “Mummy Tummy” in Reclaiming Their Favorite Activities Without Relying on Pills, Pads, or Surgery.
Choosing the right healthcare provider is crucial for your well-being. Failure to do so may result in unnecessary surgery, reliance on medications or painkillers, or a lifetime of worsening symptoms.
Opting for the least invasive and most natural treatment is essential in addressing and preventing leakage, abdominal separation issues, pelvic floor problems, and postpartum hip/back/pelvic pain.
Working with a provider who understands the interconnectedness of the body as a whole is critical to facilitate your recovery. Our bodies undergo incredible transformations throughout our lives, and addressing changes in the neck, back, diaphragm, core, pelvic floor, pelvis, posture, strength, and overall body usage is necessary for a complete recovery. It goes beyond simple Kegel exercises.
To ensure a comprehensive recovery, treating the symptoms and identifying and addressing the root cause of your symptoms and dysfunction is essential. Only then can you receive a long-term solution to your problems?
By working with experts who investigate the underlying causes and provide personalized care, Wholehearted and Healthy Physical Therapy aims to help you achieve lasting relief and recovery.
Wholehearted and Healthy Physical Therapy Has Developed a Comprehensive Three-Step Process to Eliminate Your Postpartum Symptoms and Ensure You Never Have to Deal With Them Again.
STEP 1 - YOUR STORY MATTERS
We understand the frustration of our healthcare system, where appointments are often rushed, leaving you feeling unheard and confused. Many physical therapy clinics operate similarly, lacking attentiveness and personalization. At Wholehearted and Healthy Physical Therapy, we are different.
Our first step is to listen to your story genuinely.
We recognize that each person is unique, especially regarding postpartum issues. Your body, history, pain, and symptoms are unique. We prioritize holding an open and meaningful conversation, allowing you to share your experiences. This enables us to gain a comprehensive understanding of not just the physical aspects but also how these issues impact your life.
By listening, we can create a foundation for personalized care and a tailored treatment plan that addresses your specific needs and goals. Your story matters and should guide the path to your recovery.
STEP 2 - UNCOVERING THE ROOT CAUSE OF YOUR SYMPTOMS
Many individuals have received medical terms or diagnoses for their bodily issues. Doctors may have provided these, identified through tests, or even discovered online. Terms such as prolapse, Diastasis Recti, Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, incontinence, Sacroiliac (SI) Joint Pain, or hip/back/pelvic pain might have been assigned to you.
You may have been advised to rest, take medication, or simply wait, hoping these measures would bring temporary relief. However, they do not address the underlying cause of the problem.
The truth is the cause of pain or symptoms varies from person to person. No one has the same problem caused by the same factors as someone else.
At Wholehearted and Healthy Physical Therapy, our objective is to identify the root cause of your symptoms so that your pain disappears and remains gone.
We understand you may still be skeptical or uncertain about Integrative Physical Therapy. That’s why we have introduced the free Discovery Visit. Yes, you heard it right! The first session is entirely on us!

We want to provide you with the information and reassurance you need to embark on your journey toward lasting recovery.
STEP 3 - ERADICATE THE PROBLEM & AVOID ITS RETURN
This is the crucial phase where significant transformations occur. We develop a personalized plan that empowers you to:
…resume exercising, including running and jumping, without the fear of experiencing pain, stiffness, or bladder control issues.
…engage in playtime with your children, effortlessly lifting and carrying them without any difficulties.

…return to your favorite active lifestyle, whether it’s yoga, running, tennis, or any other activity that brings you joy.
…regain your strength and confidence, and even rediscover your sense of sexiness as your body heals from Diastasis Recti/Abdominal Separation and your core strength fully recovers.
Our ideal clients are motivated and enthusiastic about reclaiming their active lifestyle, even if they feel stuck.
